Service — Patterns & tech packs

Patterns and documents production can follow

Pattern development, grading and technical documentation for designers and production teams who need files a cutting room and a sewing floor can work from.

Scope

What is in this service

Three kinds of work sit here, and each one is priced on its own basis.

Pattern development and pattern adjustment are charged per style. Grading and size charts are charged per size count. Technical drawings, tech packs and process notes are charged per document or by workload.

Projects often need more than one of the three. When they do, the three are quoted separately, so you can see what the pattern work costs and what the documentation costs.

Any of the three can be commissioned on its own, and pattern work can stand alone without sampling or production. Grading is not part of a basic pattern unless the quote says so, extra sizes are priced separately, and the file formats and revision rounds are agreed before work starts.

Deliverables

What can be delivered

Delivery can be digital, physical, or a mix of both. What follows is what the service can produce — the set that applies to your project is agreed when it is quoted.

01

Patterns

Digital pattern files or physical patterns, and graded pattern sets across the sizes in your range.

02

Specification

Size charts, specification data, process notes and production notes, written so a factory can follow them without guessing.

03

Samples and revisions

Physical samples, and pattern revisions after a fitting or a sample test.

Straight answer

Format, revision count and delivery channel are agreed per project

Digital pattern formats, the standard contents of a deliverable list, the number of revision rounds and the delivery channel are not fixed studio-wide. We are not going to publish a list that would not hold for your project.

All four are confirmed per project and written into the quote before work starts. If a format matters to your cutting room or your factory, say so at that stage and it becomes part of the brief.

Where it fits

How it fits with the rest

Documents only help if they match the style they describe. When the design is still open, the work starts with design and development.

Before a run is committed, the pattern has to be proved on a physical piece of work. That is sampling and handwork. And if you already hold your own patterns and materials, the cut and sew side sits under CMT.

Questions

Before you order pattern work

Do you grade across all sizes?

Grading is priced per size count, so the size range is agreed before work starts. Send your size chart or the size run you sell, and we will quote it.

Can you adjust a pattern I already have?

Yes. Pattern adjustment is part of this service and is charged per style. Send the pattern files together with a note on what has to change.

What file format will the pattern come in?

The format is agreed per project rather than fixed studio-wide. Tell us what your cutting room or factory can open, and it becomes part of the confirmed scope.

How many revisions are included?

Revision rounds are agreed per project and written into the quote. Work outside the agreed scope is re-assessed in cost and time before it is carried out.
