Help — Design & development

Do I need design development, or can you work from my sketch?

Either can work, and your material decides it. If you hold a tech pack, technical drawings, a size chart or a sample garment, development may not be needed at all. If you hold a concept, reference images or a rough sketch, development turns it into something production can follow.

What you have

Your material decides it

Development is worth commissioning when a gap still stands between your idea and a workable garment. When that gap is already closed, it is not needed.

If you hold a tech pack, technical drawings, a size chart or a sample garment, most of the specification is already there. We can move to patterns, grading, sampling and production without a development phase in front of them.

If you hold a concept, reference images or a rough sketch, development closes the gap: the silhouette and construction are decided, and the documents are written. The services are not a package deal either — development, patterns, tech packs and samples can be commissioned separately or combined, depending on what you already have.

The output

What development produces

A development commission leaves you with decisions and documents, not just a drawing you still have to interpret.

01

Design drawings or a design proposal

The look resolved far enough to build from, rather than a direction to guess at later.

02

Design detail

Silhouette, proportion and construction — the choices that decide how the garment behaves on the body.

03

Material and craft recommendations

Fabric, lining and trim direction, plus where embellishment and handwork make sense.

Per project

Where this varies by project

The exact deliverables of a development commission, how many revision rounds are included, and whether minor changes along the way are free are all set in the project quote. We do not carry a standing package, because the work differs too much from one brief to the next.

What stays fixed: we tell you whether development is worth commissioning before you commit to it, and what a project would need instead if it is not.
